How the course runs
- Legislation & definitions
The session opens with the legal framework around manual handling, what the law requires from employers and employees, and how definitions of "manual handling" apply in your workplace context. - Understanding the body, spine, biomechanics & ergonomics
Participants explore how the spine works, what makes it vulnerable during manual handling, and how biomechanics and ergonomics inform safe technique. Theory is kept clear and practical, not overly clinical. - Manual handling injuries & how to prevent them
A look at the most common types of manual handling injuries, how and why they happen, and the practical steps individuals can take to protect themselves before, during, and after a lift or carry. - Risk assessment & pratical application
Participants work through how to conduct a manual handling risk assessment and apply safe technique in practice, with hands-on activity, case studies, and group discussion to embed the learning. - Assessment & certification
Continuous assessment through practical demonstrations and knowledge evaluations runs throughout. Successful participants receive their certificate on completion.

Certificate
CTC Certified for 3 years
Assessed through practical demonstrations and knowledge checks throughout the course. Successful completion earns a certificate valid for 3 years, and the training can be recorded as part of your SSSC Continuous Professional Learning (CPL). Renew through further training when your certificate expires.
