How the course runs

  1. Communication, foundations & barriers
    The session opens with an exploration of communication, the different types, why good communication matters, what gets in the way, and how to promote more inclusive, effective communication across different people and contexts.

  2. Questioning and listening techniques
    Participants explore the difference between open and closed questions and practice techniques for active listening, skills that underpin both assertive communication and conflict resolution.

  3. Building assertiveness
    A practical look at assertiveness, what it is, how it differs from aggression or passivity, and how to apply it in real situations at work. Interactive exercises help participants practice assertive responses in a safe environment.

  4. Cultivating resilience
    The session closes with a focus on resilience, understanding what shapes it, how to strengthen it, and practical strategies for maintaining effectiveness and wellbeing when facing adversity or pressure at work.
