How the course runs

  1. The nature of fire and legislation
    The session opens with the science of fire, what it is, how it starts, and how it spreads, alongside an overview of the fire safety legislation that shapes responsibilities for individuals and organisations.

  2. Fire risk assessment & prevention
    Participants learn how to conduct a fire risk assessment, identify common hazards, understand fire classifications, and implement practical prevention strategies to reduce risk before an emergency arises.

  3. Firefighting media & equipment
    A practical look at the different types of firefighting media, which extinguisher is right for which fire class, and how to use them safely and effectively.

  4. Evacuation planning & case studies
    Participants explore effective fire evacuation procedures and work through real-world case studies and group discussions to apply their knowledge to realistic scenarios.

  5. Assessment & certification
    Continuous assessment through practical demonstrations and knowledge evaluations runs throughout the session. Successful participants receive their certificate on completion.

Wear comfortable clothing and suitable footwear, you'll be taking part in practical exercises throughout the day.

CTC Certified for 3 years
Assessed through practical demonstrations and knowledge checks throughout the course. Successful completion earns a certificate valid for 3 years, and the training can be recorded as part of your SSSC Continuous Professional Learning (CPL). Renew through further training when your certificate expires.
