How The Course Runs
- Introduction and legal framework
The session opens with a grounding in the legislative context, covering the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 and your duties as a care professional. This sets the foundation for everything that follows - Types of harm, abuse and neglect
Participants explore the different categories of harm and abuse, including physical, emotional, financial, and institutional abuse. Real-world case studies are used to ground learning in recognisable scenarios. - Recognition and observation skills
Facilitated group discussions and practical activities develop your ability to spot indicators of harm, understand contextual risk factors, and recognise environments in which abuse is more likely to occur. - Risk minimisation & ethical response
Participants work through strategies for minimising risk and responding appropriately, balancing professional duties with ethical considerations and the rights of the individual being supported. - Assessment, Q&A and certification
Continuous assessment runs throughout the session via practical demonstrations and knowledge checks. The session closes with Q&A and, on successful completion, certification is awarded.
